Five days after he was arrested on the charge of obstructing government officials from performing duty at Zira, former Congress MLA Kulbir Singh was released from Ropar jail today. Earlier, following the intervention of the court of Zira SDM Gagandeep Singh, officials of the Ropar Central Jail were instructed to him to appear in his court on October 31.
Meanwhile, the Punjab and Haryana High Court also reportedly chided the state government for Kulbir’s ‘extended’ detention and demanded explanation from it.
On October 19, despite securing bail from the Zira civil court, Kulbir was not released from the Ropar jail due to technical reasons. He was arrested on October 17.
Though the former MLA had been granted bail in that case, another case under Sections 107 and 151 of the CrPC was slapped on him the same day.
